Since we were out of town the weekend I hit 23 weeks, and the following week was very busy, I didn't blog so this week I am blogging for the past two weeks. Really nothing that different happened in each of the weeks...
Tony did decide finally on Zane's middle name...its going to be Jackson (his dad's family name) so his full name will be Zane Jackson Davis and some may call him 'ZJ' for short.
We traveled to Atlanta for Wilma's family reunion which was a fun time but I had a severe reaction to some bug bites, which we now think may have been dust mites. Bites all over my legs and feet that were itching so terribly, Tony was up and out at 3am in Atlanta going to the store to try to find me some relief because the benedryl and over-the-counter hydrocortozone was not working!! But when I got home and called my doctor, Nurse Becky told me to take Zyrtec and use a prescription strength steroid cream which helped tremendously and today you can barely see the spots.
I finally called and talked to my nurse provided by my insurance company for the healthy start program they have and she is very nice. She gave me lots of information and told me that because of my heart shaped uterus condition and the fact that I have had a procedure done on my cervix in the past, I could be more suseptible to pre-term labor. She also explained to me the signs of pre-term labor so I know what to watch for. She will check in on me every so often and we will stay in contact until after Zane in born.
This week I also registered at the hospital and signed us up for our baby classes. Tony and I are going to take 4 classes, just to get as much education as possible before Zane gets here. We are taking a Childbirth class that will provide the hospital tour, plus different options and scenarios for birth. Life with Baby class is general stuff about what you will need and teaches us about sleeping and eating paterns. Infant CPR class is a must! And finally Breastfeeding class that will go over all things related to that and the processes the hospital uses for the newborns. So these are scheduled during September and October and will be completed before I am 36 weeks (as recommended).
Time is really starting to fly and I am getting anxious!! I am having 3 baby showers thrown in my honor and I am so very thankful and blessed for that! One for work, friends and family. Those will be very exciting since I am resisting shopping at this point....I can't wait to start getting his things and putting his room together!!
Which by the way is making some progress....this weekend it should be totally cleaned out and ready for the furniture to come in!
Here's what the website says for the past two weeks:
23 weeks
Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With his sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that he's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound, you may be able to see him squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing him for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze him when he hears them outside the womb.
24 weeks
Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long, he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
